Review team of Centre unearths corruption worth crores in NRHM projects of UP

New Delhi: The revelations made by the Union Government team reviewing the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) projects in Uttar Pradesh has left the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state government which is already under flak for the alleged Deputy CMO Dr Y S Sachan, in a piquant position. Albeit this is not for the first time that health related projects in UP have landed in the thick of controversy.
Previously, the murder of two Chief Medical Officers followed by the alleged assassination of Dr Sachan within the jail premises have accounted for much humiliation for the state government.
Going through the finance records of the NRHM projects, the investigating team unearthed a string of irregularities which  took place right under the nose of senior BSP leaders. It was found that the State and Health authorities had turned a blind eye to the gross violation of rules and regulations in context twith the advance payments to agencies for projects which are yet to be completed.
The investigating team in its report stated that advance payments to the tune of Rs 250 crore were made to the agencies, out of which Rs 67.50 crore are yet to be utilised.
The Uttar Pradesh Small Industries Corporation (UPSIC) Kanpur tops the list of agencies which are yet to make use of the allotted sum. An advance payment of Rs 39.63 crore was made to UPSIC for 11 contracts related to the supply clean drinking water in hospitals. However, it could utilise only Rs 19.32 crore in two contracts whereas the rest of the amount lay unutilized for nine months.

Similarly, Uttar Pradesh Electronics Corporation Limited received Rs 5.16 crore as advance, but it has expedited projects worth Rs 4.32 crore.

Autos back on Ghaziabad roads on Monday despite strike called by union

Ghaziabad Metro phase-2 project hangs fire over funding

GHAZIABAD: The second phase of Ghaziabad's ambitious Metro project -from Dilshad Garden in Delhi to New Bus Stand -is facing uncertainty over funding.  Principal secretary (housing) and Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) chairman Sadakant Shukla on Monday said the UP government had not allocated any funds for the project in its budget and the state agencies that had promised to partly fund the Rs 2,208 crore project were now backing out.  However, modalities are being worked out for ensuring the ongoing Metro work is not affected due to paucity of funds and a decision is likely to be taken soon in Lucknow over external funding for the project if state government agencies failed to pay up their share of costs, Shukla said.  In fact, the Metro project is being jointly funded by the Centre, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the UP government.
