Maya blames Cong for Bundelkhand's poverty, backwardness

Blaming Congress and its general secretary Rahul Gandhi for the poverty and backwardness prevailing in the Bundelkhand, Bahujan Samaj Party president and Chief Minister Mayawati said that had the Centre accepted her government's proposal for special package, the face of this rugged region would have been different.
Addressing election meetings in Banda and Fatehpur on Tuesday, Mayawati said that development of Bundelkhand was the top most priority of the Bahujan Samaj Party government. Mayawati said from the day the BSP government was formed, as a Chief Minister she had been seeking a special package of Rs 80,000 crore, including Rs 11,000 crore for Bundelkhand alone, but the Union government neither approved the package nor did it propose any special plan for development of Bundelkhand.

"Instead, the Congress yuvraj staged drama in different parts of this area. He even staged dharna at Jhansi headquarters or led a group of Congress leaders to PM seeking special package for Bundelkhand. His whole drama was designed to get political mileage. "The Congress has no love for people from this area. Had it been so, the party would had approved the special package asked by our government," she said.

Hitting out at Congress leaders for their claims that Union Government had given money for the development of the region, Mayawati said this was just a lip service because the money centre had released was not enough for so many poor and downtrodden. "This is the reason why people have ignored Congress for 22 long years because they know Congress talks too much but does little for the welfare of the masses," she said.

Mayawati said only BSP has the policy to work for the uplift of sarv samaj. It has proved time and again that only BSP government has the courage to reign in crime and carry out development schemes which could benefit all the sections of the society.
