Three incidents of chain snatching in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, (PTI) In three separate incidents of chain snatching, motorcycle-borne thieves today escaped with the chains of a journalist, a BSP leader and a doctor, police said. While the incidents took place at intervals, within the jurisdiction of three different police stations, the modus operandi was the same, they said. In an incident in Kavi Nagar area, two men on a motorcycle forcibly took away BSP district president Ram Prashad Pradhan's chain after stopping him on the pretence of asking directions while he was returning home after a morning walk . In another case, the chain of journalist Neetu, a resident of Indirapuram, was snatched near Vaishali metro station. Similarly, three men approached Dr Rajiv, a resident of Lohia Nagar, when he was heading home from a local market and looted his gold chain.

Trial in Aarushi-Hemraj murder case adjourned till July 10

Ghaziabad:  The trial in the murder of Aarushi Talwar and domestic aide Hemraj was on Tuesday adjourned till July 10 due to strike of lawyers in the district. As the trial started, Special CBI Judge S Lal informed the defence and the prosecution about the strike and fixed the next date for further proceedings. Some of the advocates are contesting local body polls in the district and are busy campaigning, sources said. Aarushi was murdered in Noida on May 16, 2008. The body of servant Hemraj was also found on the terrace of Talwar's home on the next day. Aarushi's parents, Nupur and Rajesh Talwar, have been charged with murder and destruction of evidence. Apart from this Rajesh has been charged with misleading the probe. On June 29, a head constable of Uttar Pradesh Police had failed to match photographs and negatives of the crime scene during the trial. BJP accuses Ghaziabad administration of favouring SP

Ghaziabad: The BJP has accused the Ghaziabad district administration of acting as a catalyst for the ruling Samajwadi Party in the July 4 city municipal polls . The party is locked in a straight fight with the SP for the mayor's seat. The Bhartiya Janata Party alleged the district administration is ignoring poll violations by the ruling party. He charged that the SP workers have displayed hoardings on electric and telephone poles in support of their candidate, Sudhan Rawat, but the administration has not taken any action. The BJP state president Laxmi Kant Vajpayee while talking to IANS said that he had apprised state election officer, S.K. Agrawal, who had assured him that an appropriate action would be taken against the erring officers. District Magistrate Aparna Upadhyay dismissed the allegations and said no such complaint reached her office.  The polls will be held on July 4 for 222 wards in 8 municipal bodies of the district.
