GOOF UPS IN VOTERS` I-CARDS

Election commission officials' apathy continues to bother voters in Ghaziabad.

Firstly, it was delay in distribution of forms for making of voter I-cards in Delta Colonies which was later done by the residents themselves; secondly, it was duplication of voters' names in the voters list and now, wrong date of births in more than 60 voter I-cards in Vaishali. "The Election Commission may now lose the trust of voters of Ghaziabad as they have been performing very badly. The voter I-cards which we have received contain wrong birth dates. The officials have been doing several mistakes troubling us," said BN Goyal, president, Federation of Vaishali High Rise Building Associations.
The dates mentioned in the I-cards have been misprinted. For instance, if a person's date of birth is January 26 then it has been mentioned as January 25. Furthermore, addresses of most of the houses have been wrongly printed. "The voter I-cards are used as identity proofs but it contains wrong information we cannot show it anywhere, it's of no use to us. This is a serious issue. The authorities should carry out such important works efficiently and accurately," said Niloy Chakrobarty, a resident of Vaishali.
When some residents spoke to the junior officials of electorate of their area, the officials told them to apply for voter I-cards again. "The procedure is quite complicated and ultimately, the applicants are suffering not the officials who made the mistakes. The elections are round the corner and the new voter I-cards will take time to be rectified. The authorities should sort out this matter as soon as possible," added BN Goyal.
Election Commissioner VS Sampath said, "We will look into the matter and all discrepancies with the voting process will be dealt on a priority basis."
