Ghaziabad, (PTI) A special CBI court here has convicted six policemen for their role in a 7-year-old custodial death case. Special CBI judge A K Singh however acquitted a police constable in the case. The accused police personnel had in May 7, 1995 tried to detain Raju along with eight other persons suspecting them of being robbers, prosecution said. They tried to escape, however, except Raju, rest were caught by the police. Raju jumped into a river and was rushed to a hospital where he died during treatment. The police claimed Raju was a robber, who along with others, jumped into the river in order to evade arrest and was seriously injured. However, alleging custodial death mother of the deceased approached Supreme Court, which in turn asked for agency's probe. Umashakar(former SHO Khurja, rural), Dinanath Mishra(SHO Khurja, City), Dataram Nanoria (former SHO, Gulabati), Vishwanath Mishra(Sub-inspector of police Khurja, city ), head constable Ranjit Singh and constable Pramod Kumar (Khurja rural) were held guilty of killing Raju, the prosecution said. Ghaziabad/Noida: The woes of the people of NCR's Noida and Ghaziabad areas have been compounded, thanks to the twin crises of power cuts and water shortage. Noida residents have complained of a significantly reduced supply of water. In sectors such as 10, 11, 12, 15, 27, 31, 32, 33, 34, 37, 56 and 71, the problem of reduced hours of supply has emerged over the past ten days. Many other sectors are reportedly receiving saline mixed with 'soft' Ganga water. "Our house is situated on the ninth floor and very little water reaches that level. The entire pressure gets exhausted on the lower floors. It is a big problem for us," Rama Pandey, a resident of a housing society in Noida Sector 62, said.
