Sahibabad Inc planning its next move; annual general meet reviews work by industrial association

GHAZIABAD: The main players in the Sahibabad Industrial Area assembled last week in the Radisson Blu hotel in Ghaziabad for their annual general meeting (AGM) to reflect on the work done by the Sahibabad Industrial Association in past one year. The meeting also saw many important decisions being taken with members tenure being extended and SK Maheswaribecoming the new vice president of the association."As an association we have achieved a lot this year substantiating the fact that unity is strength," said Prem Khanna, president of the industrial association.

While there were many high points this year for the association but a few of them were noteworthy, emphasized the president. "The association took some of the infrastructure issue in site 4 to the municipal corporation. We have successfully persuaded the body to improve 42 roads in the area along with the installation of interlocking tiles on the sides of the road," said Khanna further.

The association also worked on certain state and central taxes being minimised or getting abolished. SIA spoke to the municipal corporation to cut house tax. Tax booth at the Surya Nagar flyover was demolished. The booth has been a cause of harassment for the industrialists for several years by the goons who were involved in illegal recovery.

The president said that after relentless efforts by the association, the administration has agreed to relax the stamp duty on the leasehold of plots by the industrial units within six months.

The association has also been successful in bringing officials from various departments to the Sahibabad Industrial Area to have a look at the problems of the industrialists.

"Manoj Singh, managing director of the UPPCL was apprised about the power situation in the area. Chief engineers were also called twice," informed Khanna, the president of the association.

SK Maheshwari was made the vice president of the association. He took over the reins from Kalpana Gupta who cited busyness and not being able to give adequate time to the association for relinquishing the post. Meanwhile, Maheshwari did not express any surprise over his appointment. "I have been doing the work before, so nothing is new for me. I will continue to do my job with the same passion. As VP now I will have a freehand and power to execute steps that are necessary for the development of the area."

The association, which comprises over 900 members, has been facing a problem of new members getting added without the consent of the executive board. "That will change from now. New members will be cleared by the board, only then they will get membership." The office bearers will now hold the office for 3 years, which used to be two years earlier. Next elections will be held in 2016.

This year's agenda is to press their demand to get freehold status for industrial plots. The other major area will be the increasing of floor area ratio (FAR) from 1.5 to at least 3. An ESI hospital and laying of underground cables are other priorities for the association.

The meeting was presided by the president Prem Khanna with general secretary Vipin Agarwal and finance secretary Kulwant Singh. Hundreds of association members also participated in the event.
